Long before Watford City became the epicenter of the state's energy boom, it was the center of activity between the North Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park and Williston. It's an area steeped in history, culture and scenic beauty, and today it is bustling with new things to see and do. The swift rise in population stemming from the Bakken oil development has transformed this once small rural town of 1,200 on the western edge of North Dakota into a blossoming community of over 15,000 people and growing, creating diverse opportunities for both longtime citizens and new residents. This unprecedented evolution has captured the attention of the world’s media in search of the scoop on the landscape, economy, industry and the everyday people who call this place home.
